As Assistant Director for Finance and Assets, you’ll join the Council’s Management team and help to deliver our Corporate Plan. Upholding a customer-focused, performance-driven culture, you’ll lead internal teams, managers, team leaders and staff across Finance, Revenues, Assets and Property Services. You’ll also deputise for the Council’s S151 Officer, and in recognition of that you’ll receive an extra £2,500 allowance.

You'll have a wide range of responsibilities in this role as you'll be managing the Finance Team who look after all the finance functions you'd expect i.e. for revenue and capital, along with procurement, accounts payable and accounts receivable, insurance, treasury management and risk management. You’ll also be looking after the Assets and Estates team and the Property Services team, so you’ll be providing the lead on the strategic development of the Council’s assets and adopting a commercial approach in how they are used. To be successful in this role you’ll need a relevant Accountancy qualification and membership of a CCAB body, preferably CIPFA and be a driven, commercially minded person with an understanding of local government finance frameworks. Whilst this technical expertise is key so are your people skills. You’ll be connecting with a wide range of contacts, so clear communication will be essential. You’ll know how to manage stakeholders, work with peers, and inspire teams to perform. If you can influence, persuade, and negotiate, you could be the person we want.
