This qualification provides investigators employed by public sector organisations with the essential legal knowledge, expertise and skills to carry out an investigation professionally and to secure relevant and admissible evidence.

Numerous public sector organisations employ personnel to carry out civil, criminal, and regulatory investigations. It is essential that these investigations are carried out to best practice standards.

About this training programme

The training, through classroom style face-to-face tuition, together with pre and post course reading examines relevant legislation, procedures and rules of evidence that impact on everyday work.

The programme provides a structured development path for personnel with an investigative role, giving them the necessary competencies to carry out their work effectively, through 12 classroom days.

You will be able to:

  • Gain a clear insight into the legal framework within which an investigator should operate.
  • Learn and apply best practice standards in interviewing, collecting and recording evidence, writing statements and giving evidence in the witness box.

Who is the course aimed at?

Public sector staff with a regulatory, investigative, enforcement, or prosecution role whose position involves the scrutiny or audit of regulatory matters where evidence of civil breaches or criminal offences may become evident.

  4. Law, Evidence, Procedure and Best Practice (2 days)
  5. Cognitive Interviewing (1 day)
  6. Advanced Statement/Report Writing and Giving Evidence (2 days)
  7. Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (1 day)
  8. Either Emplyment Investigations (2 days) in spring 2013 OR Collecting Electronic/Digital Evidence (2 days) in autumn 2013
