CIPFA raises thousands for Haiti on anniversary of quake

12-01-2011

A Nottingham based company is donating more than £2000 to the fund for the relief of the earthquake victims in Haiti following an arrangement with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).

Formula 4 Leadership, which creates intellectual property and technologically based solutions to leadership and development, agreed to pay a fee for each CIPFA member who completed a questionnaire on their Leadership Judgement Indicator, which focuses on leadership issues within the public sector.

The final amount raised was £2200, which will be donated to UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, to be used in the continuing emergency relief effort in Haiti, following the disastrous earthquake which hit the island a year ago today.

Bob Wheeler and Michael Locke, Directors and co-founders of Formula 4 presented the cheque to Roger Latham, former President of CIPFA at the Formula 4 Nottingham offices.

Bob Wheeler said:

‘I’m delighted that the market testing of Formula 4’s new leadership indicator with CIPFA members has led to such a significant sum being raised for the child victims of the Haitian earthquake.’

Roger Latham, former CIPFA President said:

‘I’m very grateful to both Formula 4 and to all the CIPFA members who took part in this exercise. Every penny of this generous donation will be welcomed by UNICEF.’

Formula 4 Leadership Ltd.

Formula 4 Leadership Ltd. is an innovative organisation based in Nottingham which creates intellectual property and technologically based solutions to leadership and development.  The founders, Michael Lock and Bob Wheeler have researched, consulted in and written about Effective Leadership for more than 10 years.  This has resulted in a powerful, principal driven model and practical online tools both for assessment and development.

Their best known instrument to date is the Leadership Judgement Indicator (LJI) which is published by Hogrefe and has been completed by over 10,000 people.

The LJI Public Sector Edition and CIPFA

The LJI has been particularly well received in recruitment and development in local government and other areas of the public sector.  Consequently, Formula 4 Leadership Ltd. developed a sister-instrument, the LJI - Public Sector Edition.  This was developed jointly with Roger Latham … (words about having been CEO of Nottinghamshire CC and his CIPFA profile).

There are specific challenges in leading successfully in public services.  This instrument has been written with those challenges in mind, to assess current and potential leaders who have to ensure the motivation, effectiveness and success of their teams.  It assesses the test taker’s judgement and preferred style when dealing with a range of public sector leadership decision-making contexts.

As part of the testing of this new instrument, Formula 4 Leadership Ltd. gave the opportunity to CIPFA members to complete the instrument and receive a confidential report for no fee. In order to recognize the contribution that this was making to the creation of this test, Formula 4 Leadership Ltd. agreed with CIPFA that it would make a contribution of £50 for each CIPFA member who completed the LJI - Public Sector Edition, during the offer period.  As 44 people completed the instrument, CIPFA and Formula 4 Leadership Ltd. were delighted to hand over a cheque for £2200 via CIPFA to UNICEF to aid with the relief of earthquake victims in Haiti.
