accountancy bodies to further strengthen public financial management in Bangladesh

CIPFA, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, and ICMAB, the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh, are delighted to announce that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.

The MoU will help continue the delivery of strong public financial management in Bangladesh and paves the way for the development of public sector membership in the country. CIPFA President Mike Owen, Adrian Pulham, CIPFA Executive Director for Education and Membership and Mr Mohammed Salim, President of ICMAB were present at the signing ceremony in Dhaka.

The MoU sets out the basis for future co-operation and collaboration between the two institutes and the will now work together to advance high quality public financial management within Bangladesh.  Through this joint work there will be opportunities for dual membership for both parties, the development of the accountancy profession in the public sector of Bangladesh and other professional development opportunities for members of ICMAB.

As leading professional accountancy bodies, both ICMAB and CIPFA are committed to serving in the public interest and to building confidence, capacity and enhanced governance processes in public sector institutions. The MoU reflects the overlapping interests of both bodies and their desire to share their skills, expertise and experience to further the cause of good public financial management.

In Bangladesh for the signing of the MoU, CIPFA President Mike Owen said:

“The good management of public finance is becoming an increasingly pressing issue for governments and the public around the world.

“We are all still continuing to learn the lessons of the global economic crises and we, as accountants, must be leading from the front.

“This new and exciting partnership between ICMAB and CIPFA will help ensure that both organisations continue to deliver strengthen public financial management within Bangladesh, while serving the countries and communities that we work on behalf of.”
