CIPFA launches hub for academy finance

The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) has today launched a new one-stop-shop for finance professionals and accountable officers working in academies.

The CIPFA Academies Hub will give those working in academies finance and governance access to the best practice, support and guidance to make sure they are equipped with the skills and expertise necessary to manage the public resources they are entrusted with. The rapid expansion of academies in delivering UK education means that there is a real need for improved training and guidance on finance in the sector.

Announcing the Hub at CIPFA’s Academies conference at an event at the Royal Society of Arts today, Giles Orr, CIPFA’s lead on the Academies Hub, said:

“With the continuing expansion and increasing maturity of the academies sector, there is a growing focus on the good governance and financial stewardship of these institutions.

“Therefore CIPFA is determined to make its support available to the widest possible number of academies and schools through this new Academies Hub. Supporting governors, head teachers and finance staff in their work is vital in ensuring that local schools remain well-managed and financially viable.”

The Academies Hub will help to ensure that school and multi-academy trusts are financially accountable and sustainable, deliver excellence in governance and financial management, minimise fraud and financial negligence and ensure proper use of public funds.
