Grant Thornton public sector expert honoured with CIPFA education award

The Head of Public Sector Assurance at Grant Thornton has been presented with a prestigious award in recognition of outstanding service to student education.

Sarah Howard was presented with the Tom Sowerby award at the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy’s (CIPFA’s) annual conference.

Sarah has consistently been a strong supporter of CIPFA and the Institute’s trainees. Sarah has also had extensive involvement as a CIPFA examiner and has been a particularly active volunteer in CIPFA’s Yorkshire and Humberside region.

Speaking at the CIPFA Annual Conference, new President John Matheson said:

“Sarah has tirelessly spoken out in support of CIPFA and the central importance that the CIPFA Professional Qualification has in developing strong financial management across the public sector and the importance of employers’ training not just accountants but CIPFA accountants.

“We feel Sarah best represents the qualities of commitment to the continuous improvement of the CIPFA student experience and leadership in the field of CIPFA training the award was established to celebrate.”

The Tom Sowerby Award is presented each year for outstanding service to CIPFA students. It was established by Tom Sowerby, president of CIPFA from 1973 to 1974.
