The new qualifications in International Public Sector Accountancy Standards (IPSAS) were announced today by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).
Announcing the new qualification at the Financial Reporting for Economic Development (FRED) conference in Malaysia, Gillian Fawcett, Head of the CIPFA Governments Faculty, said:
“Governments around the world are adopting IPSAS because they lead to better governance, planning and a more reliable base for audit. Bringing countries into line with proper accounting standards will offer more accurate picture of national finances, which can help bring stability to international markets.
“Of course, implementing a new set of standards at a national level is a lot easier said than done. CIPFA’s IPSAS qualification is designed to give public finance professionals the skills they’ll need to implement the standards successfully.
“As the world’s only professional body dedicated to public financial management, CIPFA is uniquely placed to provide training in global public sector standards. Professionals who train with us can expect to gain a thorough understanding of IPASAS and a globally recognised qualification.”
Students are now able to achieve two formal qualifications; CIPFA Certification IPSAS (Cert IPSAS) and CIPFA Diploma in IPSAS (Dip IPSAS). Cert IPSAS provides foundational knowledge of IPSAS. It also provides the basis to progress to the DIP IPSAS, which applies the Standards to accounting practices within public sector organisations.
