The CIPFA Carbon Finance Network
Embedding issues regarding climate change and greenhouse gas emissions into the budget planning process will become essential and accountants will be central to this process. The tight public sector financial settlement will soon cover emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which must be paid out of the organisation’s budget. The cost of carbon will start to drive decisions on all areas of policy.
Organisations are unlikely to have an experienced specialist on hand to help them meet the sustainability challenges. To provide support at a fraction of the cost of developing an in-house specialism, CIPFA will launch its Carbon Finance Network in the second half of 2010. A member subscription service for public sector organisations, the network will provide a range of services to support public sector finance professionals on the financial implications of living in a carbon-constrained world. It will promote and share good practice, discuss topical issues and commission expert training and guidance.
What is included? The network will include, for an annual subscription fee, the following:
As well as the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, themes will include the Climate Change Act 2008 and the UK Low Carbon Transition Plan. Practical examples and real experiences will combine with the theoretical to provide members with an all encompassing spectrum of knowledge. |
