The fringe lecture the speaker this year was former cabinet minister and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Roy Hattersley and his informal session immediately followed CIPFA’s AGM. AS expected this event was very popular with standing room only!

This awards scheme seeks to recognise and promote best practice in public reporting and accountability arrangements across the public services. The awards are sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and supported by a number of organisations who are pleased to be associated with this important scheme. CIPFA and PricewaterhouseCoopers invited all conference delegates to join celebrated guests at the 2006 ceremony in the main auditorium of the HIC. The Inaugural CIPFA/PwC Accountability Lecture immediately followed the ceremony and was given by Dr Tony Wright MP, Chair, Public Administration Committee. The conference was rounded off in style at the ever-popular Gala Ball – this year sponsored by Alliance & Leicester. This black-tie occasion took place in the Majestic hotel on the final night of the conference and was the must-have ticket of the event. Guests were treated to a champagne reception on arrival followed by a three course meal with wine. The evening was rounded off with dancing to the popular band, Chance.
