The 2006 tournament was once again sponsored by UBS Global Asset Management and took place at the Moor Allerton Golf Club.

This awards scheme seeks to recognise and promote best practice in public reporting and accountability arrangements across the public services. The awards are sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and supported by a number of organisations who are pleased to be associated with this important scheme. CIPFA and PricewaterhouseCoopers invited all conference delegates to join celebrated guests at the 2006 ceremony in the main auditorium of the HIC. The Inaugural CIPFA/PwC Accountability Lecture immediately followed the ceremony and was given by Dr Tony Wright MP, Chair, Public Administration Committee. The relaxed atmosphere of the CIPFA 2006 Reception was the ideal way to catch up with colleagues at the end of a packed day of conference sessions. All delegates were invited to join sponsors, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership and other exhibitors for wine and refreshments in the exhibition halls.

The conference was rounded off in style at the ever-popular Gala Ball – this year sponsored by Alliance & Leicester. This black-tie occasion took place in the Majestic hotel on the final night of the conference and was the must-have ticket of the event. Guests were treated to a champagne reception on arrival followed by a three course meal with wine. The evening was rounded off with dancing to the popular band, Chance.
