Audit Commission
The Audit Commission is responsible for ensuring that public money is used
economically, efficiently and effectively. It is a non-departmental public
body sponsored by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Department
of Health and the National Assembly for Wales.

Centre (CETC)

Department for International
Development (DFID)
DFID is the UK Government department working to promote sustainable development
and eliminate world poverty.
The European
Commission (EC)
The European Union (EU) is a family of democratic European countries, committed
to working together for peace and prosperity. It is not a State intended to
replace existing states, but it is more than any other international organisation.
Its Member States have set up common institutions to which they delegate some
of their sovereignty so that decisions on specific matters of joint interest

The Fédération des Experts Comptables Européens (FEE) is the representative
organisation for the accountancy profession in Europe.
HM Treasury
The treasury is the department responsible for formulating and putting into

aim is to raise the rate of sustainable growth, and achieve rising prosperity,

(IPF)
IPF is the commercial arm of CIPFA and provides advice and guidance on best

The International Consortium
on Governmental Financial Management (ICGFM)
The ICGFM is the worldwide communication network of financial managers, accountants,
auditors, and economists at the municpal, state, federal, and international
levels to promote a better understanding of governmental financial management.
International Corporate Governance
Network (ICGN)
The purpose of the ICGN is to provide a network for the exchange of views
and information about corporate governance issues internationally and for
the development of corporate governance guidelines.
International Federation of
Accountants (IFAC)
IFAC is an organization of national professional accountancy organizations
that represent accountants employed in public practice, business and industry,
the public sector, and education.
International Organization
of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI)
As the internationally recognized leader in public sector auditing, INTOSAI
issues international guidelines for financial management and other areas,
develops related methodologies, provides training, and promotes the exchange
of information among members.
National Audit Office (NAO)
The NAO scrutinises public spending on behalf of Parliament. Totally independent
of Government, they audit the accounts of all government departments and agencies
as well as a wide range of other public bodies, and report to Parliament on
the economy, efficiency and effectiveness with which government bodies have
used public money.
The Open Society Institute
(OSI)
The Open Society Institute (OSI) is a private operating and grantmaking foundation
based in New York City that serves as the hub of the Soros foundations network,
a group of autonomous foundations and organizations in more than 50 countries.
OSI and the network implement a range of initiatives that aim to promote open
societies by shaping government policy and supporting education, media, public
health, and human and women's rights, as well as social, legal, and economic
reform.

The OECD groups 30 member countries sharing a commitment to democratic government
and the market economy. Best known for its publications and statistics, it
also plays a prominent role in fostering good governance in the public service
and in corporate activity.

International Development Agency
Sida works on behalf of the Swedish Parliament and Government to reduce poverty
in the world. Its activities cover many fields and are being implemented in
more than 120 partner countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Central
and Eastern Europe. Sida has in-depth programmes of cooperation with some

The UK Local Government Alliance for International Development brings together

Program (UNDP)

Nations Millennium Summit, world leaders put development at the heart
of the global agenda by adopting the Millennium

against women by 2015. On the ground in 166 countries, UNDP uses its global

progress, while it connects countries to the knowledge and resources needed
to achieve these goals.

The UN Millennium Project is an independent advisory body commissioned by
the UN Secretary-General to advise the UN on strategies for achieving the
Millennium Development Goals, the set of internationally agreed upon targets
for reducing poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation
and discrimination against women by 2015.

The mission of UNPAN - United Nations Online Network in Public Administration

The World Bank
The World Bank Group’s mission is to fight poverty and improve the living
standards of people in the developing world. It is a development Bank which
provides loans, policy advice, technical assistance and knowledge sharing
services to low and middle income countries to reduce poverty. The Bank promotes
growth to create jobs and to empower poor people to take advantage of these
opportunities.
