We have been reviewing the implementation of the new Professional Qualification (PQ) syllabus and wanted to inform you of a change in 2013 that may be of relevance to you.
When we implemented the new PQ syllabus we stated that the Public Finance and Taxation (PFT) exam would be available in two separate parts during 2012, primarily to ensure that students who had passed the Public Finance (PF) or Taxation (T) half-modules in the previous scheme would be able to retain the benefit of that pass. Having received positive feedback from students and other stakeholders about this arrangement, we have decided that the option to sit either the PF or the T part of the PFT exam on its own should be continued beyond 2012. This means that candidates who have a pass in, or have been granted an exemption for, PF or T will be able to take advantage of that pass or exemption and sit the other part of the PFT exam only.
The arrangements for the December 2012 PFT exam are not affected by this decision, and the structure of that exam will be the same as in June 2012, so if you are already registered to sit one or both parts of PFT in December 2012, you do not need to take any action.
For students who plan to sit PFT after December 2012, we will publish further details about the exam format together with a new PFT specimen exam paper along with all updated PQ syllabuses before the end of 2012.
