Social Care FAN Service Plan
The Social Care FAN was launched in January 2011 and provides support and practical solutions to practitioners involved in the planning and delivery of adult social care and public health. Find out more in the service plan.

Accounting for Personalisation
In the summer of 2009, as part of its programme of work to support the delivery of Putting People First, the Department of Health began working with a number of councils to explore the implications for the way social care money is accounted for. This work looked at what improvements might be needed to develop an accounting system better suited to supporting the delivery of personal budgets and key aspects of Putting People First such as the shift of resources to early intervention.

The Department of Health facilitated a small working group of finance officers from a selected group of councils, together with representatives from CIPFA and the Information Centre for Health and Social Care to come together and discuss potential improvements. The draft proposals form the working group were shared with a number of groups, including a finance reference group established by ADASS, the CIPFA social care panel. SIIP and the CIPFA working group have seen a summary of the proposals.

The proposals have been now been updated to take account of the initial comments received and comments are sought from practitioners especially around the practicalities of potential implementation.

Please send comments to Mandy.bretherton@cipfa.org.uk by 30 June 2010 in order to be considered at the next Social Care Panel.

TISonline Adult Social Services
TISonline Adult Social Services is seeking new members with a background in adult social care finance. If you're looking for a way to develop your professional skills, contributing to TISonline could be the answer. The board meets two/three times a year, but representatives from Scotland have the option of working ‘remotely’ via email and teleconferencing. Drafts are circulated and reviewed via email between meetings. You will receive complimentary access to the full TISonline service, have your work published on a website with over 3,000 registered users, and all contributions qualify for CPD credits.

No experience of editorial board necessary, just enthusiasm and a willingness to share your skills and experience. For further information please contact rosalind.bird@cipfa.org.uk or call 020 8667 8156.

Income Recovery Survey Analysis
The Panel recently sent out a questionnaire on Income Recovery. For a glimpse into how a variety of local authorities are handling this sensitive issue, read an analysis of the survey responses.

New Panel response
Read CIPFA's response to the Department of Health consultation on direct payments regulations.

Volunteer Feedback Survey
We are always eager to hear existing (and potential) panel members' views on how we can help support you better. The Volunteer Survey offers a formal mechanism for you to feed back your views to CIPFA.

Volunteers required
The Panel has vacancies from time to time. In particular, there are currently vacancies for a local authority social services finance practitioner and for one from Scotland. Expressions of interest should be submitted on the feedback page.
