Social Value: Defining, Delivering, Reporting

There is a noticeable increase in the use of social value in commissioning frameworks and guidelines as well as a wide range of tools aimed at measuring and reporting social value.

This publication covers:

• the legislation and guidance and how this links with other legislation and guidance on value
• the range of definitions of social value
• how it relates to outcomes and social impact commissioning
• examples of how social value is being interpreted and applied, and
• approaches to measuring and reporting on social value.

Examples are included in the text, together with a resources chapter that sets out a number of tools and frameworks available to organisations. There is also a useful glossary.

The guide will be useful for people working with or in organisations delivering public services, including:

• managers and officers interested in social value approaches to service delivery
• those tasked with measuring and reporting on social value
• managers and officers involved in commissioning services, and
• others looking to apply social value to developing new service delivery models.
