Role of the local government policy panel

The panel:

  • provides a forum where local government can update CIPFA on key developments and current issues in local government financial and managerial policy
  • oversees CIPFA's local government policies, responses, and input in this area
  • approves CIPFA responses to consultation or discussion papers and exposure drafts from government and other bodies
  • forms policy and implements it within CIPFA's strategies and business plans (approved by the Public Finance and Management Board)
  • develops, promotes and maintains local government best practice, standards and guidelines
  • produces and disseminates advice and material for members and employers
  • establishes positive and productive professional relationships with government, national audit bodies, professional regulators and other relevant bodies
  • collaborates with other panels on matters of mutual interest.
