Winners of 2011 Dr Hedley Marshall Award Announced

For the first time in the award's history we have joint winners of the Dr Hedley Marshall Award - Brian Berry of CIPFA Midlands and George Clark of CIPFA North East. Both have made outstanding contributions to regional activities over many years - between them they have over fifty years involvement with CIPFA Regions.

The award was made by the Institute President, Mr Chris Bilsland at the Conference for the Regions Dinner at Caerphilly Castle.

Conference for the Regions

Representatives of all the CIPFA Regions came together to share good practice and future strategy in Cardiff. In total over 100 CIPFA volunteers met (on 15-16 September) to discuss a number of initiatives to improve the support provided to members and students locally.

Midlands Question Time style debate

This week CIPFA in the Midlands hosts its first ever Question Time Style debate, aimed at discussing how the Midlands is coping with the austerity agenda. Lisa Commane, CIPFA in the Midlands President said, “ Regional Council are keen to trial some new types of professional development events aimed at developing local thought leadership on topical issues. The Question Time style debate is the first of these and we are really excited to have lined up an esteemed panel. We need as many Members and Students to join the audience to ensure a lively debate.”

1st CIPFA in the North East Annual Conference

On 2nd November 2011, CIPFA in the North East held its first ever annual conference, at the landmark venue of the Sage Centre, Gateshead. One hundred delegates attended from across the region and across the country to hear a wide range of presentations from a number of speakers, representing many different parts of the public and private sector.

CIPFA South East Annual Dinner 2011

Another un-seasonally warm November night saw 230 CIPFA members and students make their way to the Chancery Court Hotel in Holborn for our Annual Dinner. As always it was a chance to catch up with old friends, and meet some new ones in a lively and convivial setting.

The greatest challenge in 125 years?

With the current economic crisis impacting upon the public sector, how is this impacting upon the Institute? Is this the greatest challenge that the Institute has faced in 125 years? The Yorkshire & Humber Region is holding a seminar focusing on what CIPFA is doing to ride out the storm and will consider the International agenda that the Institute has embarked upon.

modelCore Activities Model
The Board for the Regions has issued a guidance booklet on the Regional Activities Model. The booklet covers all aspects of the model developed by the regional network to assist Regional Councils and Committees in their development planning process and to monitor performance in key areas of regional activity. Copies are being sent to all Regional Councils/Committees.

Event Speaker Interest Form
CIPFA Regions organise a wide range of personal and professional development events each year. If you are interested in contributing to CIPFA’s work by speaking at one of our events, think about getting yourself listed in our new speaker directory. Just fill our online form.

There are eleven CIPFA regional organisations and three students' societies, all of which provide an annual programme of activities which update members and students on current issues and enhance professional skills as well as offering a range of social activities.

The Regions also provide a forum for communication between the Regions' members and students and CIPFA Council.
