Core Activities Model

Members will be better placed to know how the work of their local Region reflects local and national priorities thanks to a new planning model which was launched at Annual Conference.

The Regional Activity Model, developed by the Board for the Regions, is a way of illustrating the key activities which regions undertake, together with examples of processes which help deliver these activities and performance indicators which measure their effectiveness.

The model takes as its starting point the Purpose of the Regions as agreed by Council and the Board of the Regions – it then works outwards to show Core Activities, examples of Process and Performance Indicators.

Mike Owen, the Chair of the Board for the Regions, explained that the model sought to identify activities which should take place within all the Regions whilst recognizing that priorities, the number of activities and the extent to which a region will undertake these will depend on local circumstances. Whilst the model included examples of process (as guidance) the actual processes undertaken would depend on local circumstances. The Board had also been careful to keep the number of performance indicators to a minimum to ensure that resources are focused where most needed – on the provision of services to members.
