The Board's primary role is as a catalyst for renewal, change and responsiveness. To achieve this it has the following terms of reference:

To encourage best practice in the Regions through the sharing of ideas and achievements;

To act as a communications link between the Regions and with the CIPFA Council, its Committees and their Panels and Boards, complementary to other communication channels;

To represent regional views on matters of common interest;

To plan, promote and organise an annual Conference of the Regions;

To develop and manage an annual work programme in conjunction with the Regions and the Secretariat drawing on the output from the Conference for the Regions;

To encourage the development of effective regional planning, eg by identifying and promoting high priority activities;

To advise on, encourage and support the Regions in the marketing of CIPFA and its qualifications;

To advise on, encourage and support the Regions in delivering professional development activities, including CPD, for members and students.

Regional Councils

Within each Region a regional committee is responsible for member and student activities (except for Scotland and the North East where there are separate committees for student activities). Each Committee has the majority of its membership elected from amongst the Region's members and students, with an appropriate balance of geographical, employment and specialist representation of members and students.

Each Committee provides an annual programme of activities to update members and students on current issues and to enhance professional skills.
