About the awardThe Dr Hedley Marshall CBE Memorial Award is given annually to an Institute member or registered student who has given outstanding service to CIPFA regional activities. The award is sponsored by CIPFA in the Midlands in recognition of Dr Marshall's distinguished career in Coventry, and of the respect in which he is held not only in the region, but also throughout the Institute nationally.
Any member or student who has given service to CIPFA regional activities is eligible for the award and CIPFA's 12 regions, branches and societies are invited to make nominations between February and May of each year. Nominations are judged by the President, Vice-President, Chair of CIPFA's Board for the Regions and the Chief Executive. The Institute President presents the award to the winner at the annual Conference for the Regions.
Hedley Marshall was the Institute President in 1953. He was City Treasurer of Coventry from 1944 until 1964 which, of course, was such an important period for the redevelopment of Coventry following the devastation of the war.
