The National School of Government is the business school for government operating from its heart and dedicated to the public sector.
Starting in 1969 as the Civil Service College and latterly the Centre for Management and Policy Studies (CMPS), 2005 saw the launch of the National School of Government. Much more than just a name change, the launch marked a fundamental change in how it operate and what it did.
It builds on its foundation in delivering training programmes for individuals to form an organisation that works with public sector departments to help deliver their business priorities and the government reform agenda as trainers, consultants, brokers, advisers and contract managers. The National School of Government is an outward-looking organisation structured to fulfil the demands and needs of its clients.
The National School of Government is a non-Ministerial department and has wider ownership and accountability across the Civil Service. It continues to operate from the heart of Government, reflected in the make-up of the National School Board, which comprises a strong representation of Permanent Secretaries and senior leaders from across Whitehall and the wider public and not-for-profit sectors
The Big Learning project was launched as part of its contribution to Learning at Work day 2006.
