London Division Autumn Seminar: London Olympics 2012
This seminar focussed on the financing of the London Olympics 2012 as well as the potential legacy it will leave behind.
The speakers were:
Dennis Hone - Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA)
Considerable media attention is focused on how London 2012 will be financed. We heard from the man responsible for looking after the finances.
Tim Shields – Chief Executive, London Borough of Hackney
As Chief Executive of the London Borough of Hackney and Chair of the 5 Olympic Borough Partnership Tim talked about the significance of London 2012 to regenerating East London.
Karl Eddy – Grant Thornton
Karl spoke about the vision for the legacy of the Olympic Games post 2012.

London Division End of Term Quiz
CIPFA London Division invited members and students to take part in a sociable quiz evening in conjunction with it’s AGM (Annual General Meeting).
The event was held at the George Inn pub at London Bridge and included a buffet supper.
Paul Kidd acted as the quizmaster for the evening and taxed people’s general knowledge on a range of topics including literature, sport and music.
Congratulations to the winning team ‘Calamity’, who were anything but calamitous!

The seminar explored the economic and social impact of Crossrail for London.
Speakers were:
Joe Weiss - Head of Transportation at the City of London Corporation
Joe spoke about the employment generation aspects, the reasons why rail is the only option and the scheme?s complex financial structure.

Councillor Guy Nicholson - Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London Borough of Hackney
Guy assessed the impact of Crossrail at a local borough level and outlined what the scheme will mean for Hackney.
Tony Travers - Director of the Greater London Group at the London School of Economics
Tony assessed the impact of Crossrail both at a National and London level. He focused on both the socio and economic impacts of the scheme.

This event focused on the central tenet of the Government's public sector reform programme, Transformational Government. This will have a huge impact over the coming years with its emphasis on citizen-centric services and joined-up back and front-office operations. Rising to the Top: How to succeed in Public Sector Finance
This event focused upon personal development for ambitious CIPFA members, drawing on the experience of three highly successful Finance Directors to provide aspiring CIPFA members with knowledge of the skills that you need to acquire as you 'rise to the top'. It was hosted by the Home Office and included a tour of their new building.
