Future of Local Public Audit Government Response


The Government has published its response to the 2011 consultation on the future of local public audit.

The Government wil publish a draft bill in Spring 2012.

Key aspects proposed by the Government:

  • Local bodies to have a duty to appoint an auditor.
  • Creation of independent audit appointment panels to advise on appointment.
  • Procurement competitions to be run every 5 years but incumbent supplier can be reappointed.
  • Scope of audit to include a value for money component.
