risks to good governance in 2014

CIPFA Better Governance Forum Advisory Panel have reviewed some of the changes and challenges in the public services to identify risks to good governance.  Some of the issues identified could be transitional as new systems and services bed down, others could indicate a longer term trend. To support good governance, organisations need to be able to evaluate the impact of changes and also to identify new opportunties for improvement.

The aim of this review is to help governance practitioners identify risks that are relevant for their own sector or organisation. Governance practitioners are encouraged to review the effectiveness of their own risk management arrangements in managing governance risks and to support senior managers, decision makers and audit committee members in reviewing and overseeing risk responses.
