financial sustainability of local authorities

CIPFA FAN has producing a new briefing on Financial Sustainability in Local Government – Challenge and Opportunity. This pulls together the main areas of change and impact that are currently affecting local government. It also sets out areas to consider for a financially sustainable future.

The briefing considers the case for funding reform (localisation of business rates, council tax, universal credit and adult social care) alongside potential solutions and their impact on both councils and the wider community (i.e. income generation through fees and charges, alternative delivery models such as mutuals, shared services, public health benefits and cpaital partnerships).
