Financial aspects of new developments in childrens services

30/06/2017

New developments can be a source of complexity and risk for budget development and management. These events explored some of the new developments within children's services. These included new approaches to universal and early support following reviews of the work of children’s centres, and the redesign of children’s health, public health and social care services arising from the transfer of public health services and closer integration.  These events used the results of peer reviews of children’s services, Oftsed inspections, recent Department for Education reviews of spending and delivery, and our review of councils rated good or outstanding.

In addition CIPFA has recently updated a paper first prepared in 2015 which looks at what we can learn from those councils rated good or outstanding in preparing service and financial plans.  This paper on children and families looks at realising the ambition of seeing improved prospects for all our children and families and especially the most vulnerable in our nation.  It draws on an analysis of the financial and performance data from the 36 councils currently ranked by Ofsted as good or outstanding.
