This event was a practical course aimed at officers in local authorities and academies who wish to improve their knowledge of accounting challenges, best practice and governance requirements in academies. It provided a practical consideration of fund accounting, trading subsidiaries and gift aiding, VAT calculations and accounting challenges of Pensions, multi academy trusts and holding and accounting for money held by the academy.
Delegates explored the key areas of fraud risk and examine how the CIPFA’s code of practice on counter fraud can be used to support academy.
Examples of successful income generation in academies was discussed, and also considered areas for generating additional revenue and the related tax implications and legal requirements.
This workshop was for delegates who were looking to have a clearer understanding of income generation in academy and some of the more contentious and tricky aspects of accounting and governance in academies.
