Funding for local government over the medium term will be largely determined by the health of the UK economy and the public finances. The pace of economic growth – or indeed, recession - will determine the tax revenues that are received by HM Treasury. And these tax revenues, together with the Government’s policy over how quickly to close the budget deficit, will determine how much is available to spend on public services.
