Supported Housing

09-11-2017

On 25 October 2017, during Prime Minister’s Questions, Theresa May announced that the government would be abandoning its plans to apply the local housing allowance cap to claims for housing benefit and universal credit from those living in the social rented sector – both general needs accommodation and supported accommodation.

In addition, she said that the government’s alternative proposals for the future funding of supported housing schemes would be set out in its response to the consultation process conducted earlier in 2017.

On 31 October 2017, the government published its alternative proposals for the funding for supported housing in a new consultation paper.

In this document, the government has abandoned its ‘one size fits all’ approach and, instead, proposes three new separate funding schemes for three separate groups of supported accommodation.
