Briefing on the Queen's Speech

19-05-2016

Her Majesty the Queen gave a speech for the State Opening of Parliament on 18 May 2016, announcing the government’s legislation for the year ahead. There are several Bills with implications for police, crime and partnership working, which are outlined in the attached briefing.

Following the heavy legislative programme announced in last year’s Queen’s Speech, this year’s programme appears lighter. Five new Bills have implications for policing and crime, or indirect implications via partnership working through changes to local authorities or combined authority mayors. There are also two carried over from the last session of Parliament, two of which have implications for crime and policing.
