Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS)
The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) is the professional voice of police leadership in Scotland. It works in partnership with central and local government to set strategic objectives for policing in Scotland and to deliver better integrated services for Scotland's communities.

Association of Police Authorities (APA)
The Association of Police Authorities (APA) is the national voice of all police authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The APA works with the Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) to set policing policy and improve policing on behalf of communities.

The Audit Commission
The Audit Commission is an independent public body responsible for ensuring that public money is spent economically, efficiently, and effectively in the areas of local government, housing, health, criminal justice and fire and rescue services. Its mission is to be a driving force in the improvement of public services. It promotes good practice and helps those responsible for public services to achieve better outcomes for citizens, with a focus on those people who need public services most.

Audit Scotland
Audit Scotland provides the Auditor General and the Accounts Commission with the services they need to check that public money is spent properly, efficiently and effectively.

Communities and Local Government (CLG)
Communities and Local Government sets policy on local government, housing, urban regeneration, planning and fire and rescue. It has responsibility for community cohesion related issues in England and for building regulations, fire safety and some housing issues in England and Wales. The rest of its work applies only to England.

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC)
HMIC independently assesses police forces and policing activity ranging from neighbourhood teams through serious crime to the fight against terrorism – in the public interest. It asks the questions which informed citizens would ask, and publishes the answers in accessible form, using expertise to interpret the evidence. HMIC provides authoritative information to allow the public to compare the performance of their force against others, using the evidence to drive improvements in the service to the public.

Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland (HMICS)
HMICS is responsible for inspecting the eight Scottish police forces and five police services. HMICS operates independently of police forces, police authorities and the Scottish Government and exists to monitor and improve police services in Scotland. HMICS does this by inspecting and advising police forces and the services provided by the Scottish Police Services Authority (SPSA). It also carries out thematic inspections and provides advice to Scottish Ministers.

Home Office
This site combines all of the police-related information published by the Home Office and links to archived material. It will be useful to all ranks of serving police officers and anyone involved in policing and justice.

HM Treasury
The Treasury is the United Kingdom's economics and finance ministry. It is responsible for formulating and implementing the Government's financial and economic policy.

Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC)
The IPCC's job is to make sure that complaints against the police are dealt with effectively. It sets standards for the way the police handle complaints and, when something has gone wrong, it helps the police learn lessons and improve the way it works.

Local Government Association
Local Government Association (LGA) lobbies and campaign for changes in policy, legislation and funding on behalf of its member councils and the people and communities they serve. The LGA is a voluntary membership body for England and Wales. The 22 Welsh unitary authorities are in corporate membership through the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) which retains full autonomy in dealing with Welsh affairs.

The National Assembly for Wales is the democratically elected body that represents the interests of Wales and its people, makes laws for Wales and holds the Welsh Government to account.

National Audit Office
The National Audit Office audits central government accounts and reports to Parliament on the value for money achieved by government projects and programmes.

Police Federation of England & Wales
The Police Federation of England and Wales is a staff association for all police constables, sergeants and inspectors (including chief inspectors).

Police Superintendents Association England and Wales (PSAEW)
The Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales is the professional association that represents the senior police officers in the 43 Home Office police forces, British Transport Police, Civil Nuclear Constabulary and Isle of Man Police in the rank of Superintendent and Chief Superintendent.

The official site of the Prime Minister's Office.

The Scottish Government
The devolved government for Scotland is responsible for most of the issues of day-to-day concern to the people of Scotland, including health, education, justice, rural affairs, and transport. It is headed by the First Minister and is made up of those MSPs who have been appointed by the First Minister as Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers.

The Scottish Parliament
The Scottish Parliament comprises all 129 elected Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) and is the law-making body for devolved matters. It considers proposed legislation and scrutinises the activities and policies of the Scottish Government through debates, parliamentary questions and the work of committees.

Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA)
SOCA tackles serious organised crime that harms the UK and its citizens. This includes Class A drugs, people smuggling and human trafficking, major gun crime, fraud, computer crime and money laundering.

UK Parliament
Parliament examines what the Government is doing, makes new laws, holds the power to set taxes and debates the issues of the day. The House of Commons and House of Lords each play an important role in Parliament's work.

Wales Audit Office
The Wales Audit Office covers all sectors of government, except those reserved to the UK government. The Auditor General for Wales, as head of the Wales Audit Office either directly audits bodies, such as the Welsh Assembly Government and the NHS or, as in the case of local government, appoints auditors to do so.

Wales Office
The Wales Office supports the Secretary of State for Wales in ensuring the smooth working of the devolution settlement in Wales. It is Wales’ voice in Westminster and Westminster’s voice in Wales.
