Effective asset management structures and data systems

The morning started with our essential Update highlighting everything that is going on and relevant to property asset management in Northern Ireland, as well as wider property news from across the UK. This was followed by a session looking at the core structural requirements of an effective asset management service in a public organisation, and the foundations needed to have in place to ensure the property estate can react and match our future ambitions.

Comprehensive and robust data is a key tool for an asset manager, but to develop a complete set of property related data is often a real challenge to achieve in practice, particularly if different data sets are being brought together. There is a risk in making decisions about property assets in the absence of accurate data, the afternoon session explored what sort of data is needed, and how it can be used to best effect.
