We are currently seeking an experienced, self-motivated and committed individual to lead our expanding Accountancy Section. This will involve providing a full range of costing, budgeting and accounting services to the Council and its associated companies.
As well as line management responsibilities the post holder will have significant responsibility for the Council’s capital and treasury functions, therefore a high level of accuracy when working is essential while ensuring that statutory requirements and professional codes of conduct are met, particularly when producing the annual Statement of Accounts.
Due to the scope of the role the post holder will demonstrate the ability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively and possess excellent communication skills. A flexible approach to work is also required in order to meet various deadlines. You should have strong technical skills and accounting expertise to give you the self-confidence in managing the competing demands of the role while driving forward changes and improvements to the service.
While not essential, previous experience of accounting for local authority owned companies and a broad understanding of VAT in a local government context would be an advantage.
Candidates must be professionally qualified and hold full membership of a CCAB recognised body.
