Assistant Director, Finance Service Lead

Birmingham; salary £72,720 - £89,082

Birmingham is a place of ambition and aspiration with a proud past and bright future. A place that will host the 2022 Commonwealth Games and already in the global spotlight. With so much to celebrate – and opportunities that more than match our challenges – we need a council that’s proud to give its all for the city and the communities that live here. Now we’re looking for skilled leaders to help us be that authority. People who aren’t afraid to bring transformation and better services for all. If you care about Birmingham and have the talent to deliver development well, discover a vibrant, diverse city that’s in a unique position.

As assistant director – finance service lead, you’ll be right at the heart of our team. By leading strong, internal services and giving expert financial advice, you’ll help us build the council of the future. It’s a senior leadership role where you’ll support the assistant director for corporate finance and the deputy s151 officer. By offering high-level guidance, you’ll help to develop the department’s financial performance management system, and inform decisions and direction. Meanwhile, you’ll be leading a portfolio of financial services including payroll, accounts payable/receivable and SAP improvement, which will serve all directorates and align with wider strategies.

You’ve got strategic leadership skills plus determination. And with a professional qualification (CCAB, CIMA or CIPFA) in your field, you’ve got financial management skills and credibility. Now you’re ready to give us innovative, integrated services, while supporting transformational change. You’ll have a track record in this area, as well as experience of delivering best value. To make things happen, you need to be commercially sharp and well versed in local government finance too – able to manage budgets and make resources go further. If you can also make partnerships work, you could be part of the team that’s forging our city’s future.

This is the kind of role that makes reputations and careers. If you’d like to find out more, please contact Penna, either David Slatter T: 07500 828610 or Zara Watson T: 07464 692658, for a confidential conversation, or visit senior management jobs at Brimingham Council.
