2017/18 Accounts Closedown Workshop

Networks

Event summary

The CIPFA FAN and EY are working in partnership to deliver a programme of accounts closedown workshops across the country with separate events for police bodies and English, Welsh and Scottish authorities.

The workshop programme covers the key changes impacting on the production of the 2017/18 financial statements and the outcomes of the 'Telling the Story' changes in 2016/17. However, there are significant changes to IFRS that will come through in the 2018/19 Code and later, so the workshops will also focus on the key risks in relation to the new Financial Instruments standard (IFRS 9) and other future expected changes in the Code that might impact on the General Fund and/or the HRA.

About this event

The one constant within local government is that the accounting and legislative framework is subject to constant change. This CIPFA FAN series (run in partnership with EY) addresses the latest changes impacting on practitioners and will be delivered through a mixture of presentations and group exercises to maximise networking opportunities and shared learning.

Who should attend?

These closedown events are relevant to finance staff actively involved in the production of Accounting Code compliant financial statements, as well as those involved in the strategic planning for the complementary financial reporting.

How you will benefit

Delegates will benefit from:

  • consolidation of the key learning points from the 2016/17 accounts closedown process, including the outcomes of the Telling the Story presentational changes
  • an understanding of the key issues affecting the preparation of the 2017/18 Statement of Accounts and the ongoing and emerging audit issues that will need to be considered for this year’s closedown
  • awareness of the expected future changes to the Code of Practice and what actions need to be considered now to best prepare for those changes
  • the opportunity to share and discuss the practical considerations in relation to the 2017/18 statement of accounts and future changes in IFRS and consider examples of good practice.
