About this event

Social housing fraud is widely recognised as a growing problem, from right to buy/right to acquire to illegal subletting or the acquisition of social housing tenancy through fraudulent means. 

The ACFTech in social housing fraud covers fraud investigations in both civil and criminal contexts and includes the routes available for recovering losses and costs. 

Course outline

The course will cover:

  • investigation and enforcement of social housing fraud through the Prevention of Social Housing Fraud Act 2013, the Fraud Act 2006 and the UK Bribery Act 2010
  • the criminal offences and different recovery routes through profit orders
  • powers to require disclosure of information by particular organisations
  • fraud, theft and other dishonesty offences
  • types of evidence, elementary ‘rules of’ and maintaining probity
  • exhibits handling
  • human rights legislation and the impact on investigations
  • compliance with procedural legislation
  • witness interview and obtaining statements
  • suspect interviews
  • report writing and building a case file for prosecution.

Who is this course aimed at?

This qualification is for those working in housing investigations, including those in local government, housing associations and registered social landlords.

Accreditation

The ACFTech is accredited by CIPFA and the University of Portsmouth’s Counter Fraud Professional Accreditation Board. 

It is worth 20 Level 4 credits at a higher education institution, which would count as advanced learning and attract exemptions from the courses offered by the University of Portsmouth’s Centre for Counter Fraud Studies and others.

Assessment

You will be assessed via a combination of exams and written assignments.

On completion, you will be awarded the title of ‘accredited counter fraud technician’.
