Best Practice in Procuring Public Sector Insurance Contracts

This event is aimed at insurance and risk managers and finance managers responsible for insurance. It is an overview of the new procurement rules that will apply to insurance tendering. You will learn how to achieve the best outcome from your insurance tender, how to select appropriate criteria and how to make best use of an insurance broker. You will explore insurance clauses in contracts and the principles of maintaining a sensible commercial judgement when it comes to an indemnity limits contract. Insurance specification and monitoring contracts with service providers will also be covered, together with the importance of collaboration and other ways of achieving cost savings.

Emerging Insurance Issues and Legal Update

This event is for insurance and risk managers and for legal and finance managers responsible for insurance. You will learn about insurance reserve and provisions, public health provisions, how to estimate outstanding claims and incidents, the difference between complaints and insurance claims and insurance for academies and schools.

Essentials of Pensions and Treasury Management

This event is aimed at senior finance officers and elected members. It will arm you with the knowledge and tools that are needed to deliver effective scrutiny and governance. You will examine how key factors will shape treasury and pension investment strategies, the factors that must be challenged when setting the treasury management strategy and current trends in investment and debt management. Issues affecting public pensions will also be explored, including what the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) Triennial Valuation really means for pension funds, the impact of austerity and auto enrolment and the future of the LGPS.

Good Governance in the Public Sector

This international e-learning course is aimed at chairs, board/non-executive members and chief executives of public bodies, elected representatives and members of local councils. It is also ideal for senior managers who have a responsibility for reporting to the board, risk managers, internal and external auditors and those charged with governance and supporting the board. Robust governance is central to public sector organisations across the globe. This course will provide you with guidance and establish a useful starting point for reviewing and improving the governance within your organisation, wherever it is based.

Governance and Risk Issues Arising from the Implementation of the Better Care Fund

This event is aimed at practitioners who contribute to the establishment of governance, risk and assurance arrangements for the management of the pooled budget. You will consider the key issues arising from the establishment and operation of the pooled budget and will gain the knowledge and understanding needed to more effectively advise on key risk areas and to undertake audit and assurance work on this key area.

Governance Framework for Local Government

This event is for governance practitioners who are responsible for implementing or advising on governance. CIPFA and Solace are reviewing the Good Governance Framework for Local Government in the light of the International Framework on Good Governance published in 2014, plus other developments. You will be taken through the key changes and steps required to adopt the new framework ready for the 2015/16 Annual Governance Statement, helping you to plan its implementation.

If you review or are responsible for counter fraud arrangements in public service organisations, this highly practical event will help you to assess your current arrangements against CIPFA’s Code of Practice on Managing the Risk of Fraud and Corruption. Using examples, you will gain the understanding needed to effectively implement the Code and to identify key actions relevant to your organisation.

Introduction to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

If you are a new or inexperienced pensions officer, accountant or elected member, this event will give you a broad understanding of the workings of the LGPS. Based on the CIPFA Knowledge and Skills Framework, you will explore the wide range of different professional disciplines which impact on the LGPS including actuaries, accountants, auditors, custodians and investment advisers. You will learn about the legal and regulatory requirements and the importance of good governance when operating a public sector pension fund.

This event is ideal for those who review or are responsible for information risks in public service organisations. It will examine the major areas of risk, recommended best practice for managing them and key roles and responsibilities. You will gain the knowledge and skills needed to identify the major information risks faced by your organisation and the appropriate measures to mitigate them.

Pensions Governance Workshop

This event is aimed at officers, councillors and other stakeholders involved in the administration and investment of LGPS funds. This includes pensions managers, investment officers, pensions accountants, senior finance officers and elected members. It will give you an insight into the forthcoming legislative changes, the implications of a National Pensions Board and the involvement of the Pensions Regulator. You will have the opportunity to discuss the merits of the proposed changes and to reflect on the importance of good governance and the role of the CIPFA Knowledge and Skills Framework.
