Health Newsletter May 2020

In only a few short weeks the world has become a very different place for all of us, both personally and professionally. Many of you will be adjusting to working from home and the new challenges which accompany this.

Despite the many changes to operational and financial arrangements, the finance profession continues to guarantee that the system runs seamlessly and frontline staff are supported. We know that some of you are moving mountains in order to ensure that resources do not act as a barrier in responding to the outbreak at any level.

Clearly, much of the current focus is on the clinical and care staff at the frontline. We appreciate that those behind that frontline, the finance teams, are keeping the wheels turning in so many ways, from procurement to payroll. We also know that when this is all over, and the costs have to be counted and public funds accounted for, it will be the finance teams who are all important. Therefore, we would like to thank you for your continued support and commitment to our health and care services.

For our part, CIPFA has released a statement confirming how we are protecting the health and safety of students, members, customers and staff in these unprecedented times. Visit our new COVID-19 resources hub for more information about what we’re doing as an organisation to combat the crisis.

We are doing all that we can to support your ongoing learning and development needs and have moved all of our  scheduled training courses and Network events  online, until the end of May. We are closely monitoring government guidance and will continue to adapt our training delivery for as long as necessary. If you have any queries about an upcoming course or event, please contact us at

We have pulled together a comprehensive list of COVID-19 key resources relevant to health finance as part of our online hub, which we hope will be helpful in navigating these challenging times.

Stay safe.

Eleanor Roy
