CIPFA welcomes asset management report

The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) has welcomed the report Leaner and Greener: Delivering Effective Estate Management which was launched by Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government at the Palace of Westminster today. It is the culmination of an inquiry chaired by Matthew Hancock MP that examined asset management within the public sector and in particular Local Government.

It comes up with 15 keys recommendations of how Local Government could improve asset management practice and as a result suggests reductions of up to 30% on space and savings on running costs of up to £7 billion per annum.

David Bentley, Head of Asset Management at CIPFA Property said:

‘CIPFA is delighted the report has backed up the position we’ve maintained over many years. The recommendations add momentum to what should be an obvious cost-saving initiative for councils as part of their long term planning.’
