CIPFA, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, has awarded Grant Thornton the Institute’s Accredited Training Employer status for the new CIPFA Public Audit Qualification (PAQ).
This follows the implementation of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 under which the Institute has been granted Registered Qualifying body status for local public audit by the UK’s Financial Reporting Council.
Grant Thornton is the first organisation to receive this PAQ accreditation. This means that in addition to receiving global recognition as Chartered Public Finance Accountants (CPFA), staff trained by Grant Thornton under this new status will be completing the only specialist public audit qualification.
Chief Executive of CIPFA, Rob Whiteman commented on the accreditation:
“It is great news that we at CIPFA are able to award Grant Thornton Accredited Training Employer status for our unique Public Audit Qualification.
“Both our organisations are dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of good governance and good public financial management and have worked hard to attract dedicated individuals to a career in public finance
“This new qualification and Grant Thornton’s new status will enable us both to continue training and nurturing talent across the UK, which ultimately will have a long lasting and positive effect on the way the public finances are managed far into the future.”
Sarah Howard, national partner for Grant Thornton Public Sector Assurance and Grant Thornton’s Qualified Person Responsible for CIPFA Training, said:
“We are delighted to be the first to receive CIPFA Accredited Training Employer status for the Public Audit Qualification (PAQ).
“As a leading provider of public audit we continue to invest in our CIPFA training. We are fully committed to the PAQ as the qualification of choice for public sector specialists.
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with CIPFA over the coming months and years as together we provide world class training for our PAQ students.”
About the Accreditations
CIPFA has been recognised by the Financial Reporting Council as a Registered Qualifying Body for local public audit. This means the Institute can offer the PAQ under the terms of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014.
CIPFA has now accredited Grant Thornton as a firm that can employ students to do the PAQ. Although Grant Thornton students were already studying for the qualification, they wouldn’t have been able to do so under the changes of the Act.
Grant Thornton will be subject to an accreditation review later this year.
