This is to be my first and last article for the CIPFA Property newsletter. After 12 years with CIPFA I’m moving on to a new challenge. It hasn’t been an easy decision for me to make but it feels like the right time.
When I first started with CIPFA in 2007 (I was obviously a lot younger – not that I am old now!), it’s fair to say that I was rather daunted by what lay ahead, but you all made me feel very welcome. My first event, which was in my first week, was an AMP network event in Bury St Edmunds. I recall David ‘making’ me present a ten minute slot – it felt like more like an hour. After I’d finished you might think I felt relief but I didn’t, I panicked as I questioned whether I was suited to this role! (Yes I know some of you are perhaps still questioning this!) Here we are 12 years on.
I can genuinely say that the best part of this job is not working with Chris or David or Tim or even Denise (that may be difficult for them to believe) but it's meeting and working with all of you. Over the years I consider that many of you have become more than simply delegates but friends.
There are some significant challenges ahead for the public sector and I know I will be relying on the CIPFA networks to help me through, so come on Chris and David keep up the good work.
I am sure that I will still come into contact with some of you and if you are ever in or around the Durham area then please feel free to pop in and I’ll be happy to offer you a cuppa. I would like to wish you all the very best moving forward, I’m going to miss you all.
