Over 150 CIPFA students came together in London Hammersmith last week to get inspired and learn more about leadership skills that will be essential to them in their careers. We had a great line-up of speakers and a sellout conference!
Dave Caesar started us off by sharing experiences as Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine in Royal Edinburgh Infirmary - juggling his duties between emergency room staff, management, administration, budgets etc. We learned why vision and belief are so key.
Next to speak was Jon Harrison who taught us to stretch a little further, push a little harder. He showed us the importance of emotional intelligence and the effects a positive approach can have on people and outcomes. Jon talked about building your personal brand and starting with why.
Andy Lopata, our final speaker of the day, showed us the value of networking and effective communicating through social media and other mechanisms. He also touched on personal branding and being able to sell your brand.
It was also a pleasure to meet Jaki Salisbury to get her insight and perspective on her new role as CIPFA President and the leadership lessons she has learnt over the years.
Finally, big congratulations to Carrie Wright on winning the CIPFA Excellence in Education prize for helping students to be the best they can.
