Role of the charities board

The Charities and Social Enterprises Board:

  • focuses on finance and policy issues relating to charities and the wider voluntary and community sector
  • works on policy formulation and implementation within Public Finance and Management Board (PFMB)-approved strategies and business plans
  • approves (via the Chair where necessary) CIPFA responses to consultation and discussion papers and exposure drafts from government, professional other bodies
  • forms work programmes for recommendation to the PFMB
  • monitors work programmes and reports their performance to PFMB
  • develops, promotes and maintains best practice, standards and guidelines
  • produces and disseminates advice and material on issues relevant to members and employers
  • establishes positive and productive professional relationships with government, national audit bodies, professional practitioners, regulators and other charity umbrella bodies
  • works with other PFMB panels on matters of mutual interest
  • provides multiple centres of government perspective.
