School funding is facing a turbulent time. In 2013 we saw the government introduce a semi-prescriptive funding formula, and by 2019 we will see further changes that take local authorities out of the 'calculation and distribution' equation. In addition to this, we are also seeing more schools facing financial difficulties and attempting the difficult balancing act of achieving constantly rising targets with real-terms funding cuts.
This CSFAN workshop provides an overview of the proposed funding changes - as delivered by the Department for Education.
It also introduces a 'needs-led' funding model that has been used successfully in schools and academies facing financial difficulties – to assess whether their curriculum and staffing structure is affordable and what areas can be changed.
