Police and Fire Network

Welcome to the Police and Fire Network – briefing and advising police forces, offices of police and crime commissioners and fire and rescue authorities.

Your advisor – Alison Dewhirst – works closely with the Home Office, HMICFRS, National Audit Office, NPCC Finance and Resources Committee, Police and Crime Commissioners' Treasurers' Society and the Fire Finance Network on strategic policing and fire and rescue related issues. These include police and fire reform, financial and accounting developments and corporate transformation issues to keep you at the forefront of police and fire legislation, policy, current issues and anticipated future developments.

The network also has close links to CIPFA’s Achieving Finance Excellence in Policing Programme, launched in April 2019, and CIPFA’s Police and Fire Panel, which oversees the governance of the programme.

Alison Dewhirst, Police Advisor, Police Network

Alison has worked in and for policing for over twenty five years since her first days as a researcher for City of London Police and has experienced an incredible amount of change in the sector over that time.

Alison runs the CIPFA Police and Fire Network, running events and writing publications. She manages the CIPFA Police and Fire Panel and oversees the coordination of its sub-groups.

Alison works closely with colleagues in the CIPFA Policy and Technical team, the Networks team and across CIPFA on a whole range of finance and governance related issues affecting police and fire services. E: alison.dewhirst@cipfa.org, T: 01904 675587.
