Chief Finance Officer

Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset; competitive salary

A great place to live where people, businesses and communities flourish.

North Somerset Council is a top performing unitary authority with a reputation for innovation and efficiency. We are well advanced with our transformation programme and have introduced creative, commercial initiatives to provide a strong financial platform.

We promote growth without compromising the things that we, and our millions of visitors, love about North Somerset: our beautiful countryside, stunning coast and distinctive towns and villages, each with their own unique character. Its future success will depend upon a thriving local economy to provide the jobs that are essential to wellbeing, as well as generating the income the council needs to sustain vital services.

We are looking for a chief finance officer to join our Corporate Management Team to improve the efficiency of our organisation further and to help shape the delivery of services within the finance, strategic procurement and property sections. You will be the council’s section 151 officer and lead on our commercial strategy, appraising and advising on commercial opportunities which will integrate with council’s overall financial plan. To be successful you will have significant experience of the issues facing a unitary authority. You will be proactive in managing change and risk and be focused on outcomes. You should be confident in managing complex and challenging environments and workloads, while also having high-level relationship management skills and a real commitment and motivation for the opportunities and challenges ahead.

In addition to strategic financial leadership, the post holder will lead on the delivery of the council’s capital investment programme, providing leadership and direction to a team of finance, procurement and property professionals to ensure the needs of the council are met.
