The Government of Tristan da Cunha is seeking to fill a Chief Finance Officer role. This is a unique opportunity to lead and support on strategic financial management on the island, and build resilience and sustainability into the island’s economic future. You will be a key player in setting direction in management and development of government finance and the island economy.
You will support the Finance Department in the efficient and effective management of Accounting Services across the whole of the Tristan da Cunha Government as well as help implement strategic initiatives and reforms. You will share your skills in supporting and mentoring staff.
Being a champion for best practice, you should have the flexibility of not only dealing with day-to-day regulatory and reporting but be able to take responsibility for all the TDC Government’s statutory accounts. You will be leading and managing major procurements and implementing continuous improvement of financial systems across Tristan da Cunha Government
Tristan da Cunha is an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. It is the world’s remotest inhabited island, and lies 1500 miles west of Cape Town. Opportunities to work in this unique environment and community are rare, and this particular role will offer the chance to develop a range of skills.
Requirements
Candidates must be qualified accountants with excellent financial and budget management skills, adept in the preparation of statutory accounts and the analysis of financial information. The ideal candidate is likely to be Chartered through ACCA or CIMA with a strong background in the public sector. Experience of working in overseas territories would also be an advantage.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated team player, who is an effective and confident communicator, well versed in presenting financial information to peers, senior officials and elected members. They will also need to establish successful working relationships, with a range of Government, international and local stakeholders.
Sound technical accounting skills should be supported by outstanding interpersonal skills, being able to integrate, adapt and overcome living in such a remote location. Resilience and a flexible approach are essential qualities.
