Deputy Director of Finance (s151)

Aylesbury, up to £90,000

At Buckingham County Council, we’re thinking innovatively and commercially to make sure our communities continue to get the best from us. It’s an ongoing challenge that’s about to become more complex thanks to a potential move to unitary status. We now need a skilled Deputy Finance Director who can lead our Finance team and support our evolution. If you’re a confident CCAB-qualified leader, join us and provide critical support and direction.

As Deputy Finance Director, you’ll be our Deputy Section 151 Officer. You’ll fulfil statutory duties and take on operational management tasks so senior staff are free to perform at their best. However, this is only the start of a remit that’s full of interesting opportunities. With responsibility for the entire Finance team, you’ll be uniquely placed to deliver improvements including a change in team structure. You’ll be the financial lead on critical change projects including our Council-wide transformational programme. And we’ll also look to you to develop key financial strategies and help create a Medium Term Financial Plan.

Experience of working in a senior local authority finance position, you’ll know how to take the function forward and work on strategic and operational levels. You’ll combine this expertise with political awareness and excellent people skills – exactly what’s required to advise senior figures and support your team. Able to present well, manage a host of diverse contacts and deputise for the Director of Finance, you’ll have the gravitas to win trust and respect. Your expert finance knowledge will help you influence and guide – and that will be vital as we enter new and exciting times.
