Responding to COVID-19: insight, support and guidance

Director of Finance and Resources

Northamptonshire Children’s Trust, Northampton; up to £125k

Serving our children and young people across two new unitary councils

It's an exciting time to be working in local government and children's services in Northamptonshire. In May 2019 the Secretary of State announced the creation of two new unitary authorities and the establishment of a standalone children's trust, which will deliver children's social care, targeted early help and young offending services to these new organisations in the north and west of Northamptonshire.

The children's trust will allow for a single focus on improving the outcomes of children and young people in Northamptonshire and will aim to develop a culture that allows the very highest quality of professional practice to flourish, aiming to deliver at the cutting edge of new innovation.

We are pleased to announce that Ian Curryer has been appointed as our chair. As a former chief executive and DCS he brings valuable leadership as well as children's services experience which will help drive our vision for improved services for all of our children and young people. We have also recruited four non-executive directors to join the trust board, which is now operating in shadow form.

Wholly owned by the councils, the intention is to launch the trust by 1 April 2021 with a remit to deliver all children's social care, targeted early help and youth offending services.

Supported by the DfE Commissioners, Andrew Christie and Clare Chamberlain, the chair, chief executive and non-executive directors will be key to the establishment of the trust, working with a number of key partners including Northamptonshire County Council's chief executive, district councils and in due course the two new unitary authorities.

We are now looking to recruit the trust's director of finance and resources – a key individual with strong financial and business acumen who can help ensure sound probity and that money is directed to the transformation and delivery of services that will change children and young people's lives for the better.
