Nottingham is a vibrant, diverse place to live, and as a Council we’re committed to helping our communities grow and thrive and dedicated to making our services the best they can be. From our ambition to be the UK’s first Carbon Neutral City by 2028 to our celebrated transport system, and from the work to redesign our city centre into an open and welcoming space to our award-winning parks, leisure and cultural facilities, we’re a city with a lot to offer.

The Council has a significant and varied portfolio, and with investment and commercial assets valued more than £1bn, our Property Function is at the heart of our improvement journey. It plays a key role in delivering our commercial growth and income aspirations, leads on strategies linked to its operational portfolio, and supports significant regeneration projects. As an employer, we want to give you the opportunity to be part of our journey. We’re building a solid future, ensuring our citizens, businesses, investors and visitors can enjoy a flourishing, prosperous city.

What we’re looking for

When you join us in this important role, you’ll provide leadership and line management to our Estates Rents team, work that will include training, development and formal appraisals, with a focus on welfare considerations and performance. You’ll support the senior management of strategic assets and property to ensure the service has accurate revenue and capital budgets and set up and realign processes and systems as appropriate. Leading the management of high-profile strategic projects, you’ll also develop relationships with external agents to ensure the accurate and timely income reconciliation for rent and service charges.
Your other responsibilities will be many and varied and include supporting the business in achieving required revenue growth, savings and capital income, and maximising income collected by acting on debt collection performance data and other KPIs. You’ll also work with colleagues to ensure the forecasted financial position is a true reflection of the business position, and lead on ensuring that actual income and expenditure is accurate within the ledger and in line with profiled budgeting.

About you

What you’ll bring to the role

With diverse finance and budgeting experience at a senior level, you’ll have worked in either a property management or management accounting environment. You should have significant expertise when it comes to providing financial support and advice to a wide range of services in a large and complex organisation and possess the ability to manage a billing and collection function.

Capable of assessing risk while developing and supporting services and strategic priorities, you’ll have the skills to manage, lead and motivate a team, work that will include recruitment, training, and staff appraisals. Ready to lead by professional example by being a positive influence on colleagues, taking personal responsibility for outcomes and delivering to a high standard, you’ll also be capable of supporting the direction of service change, and pursue opportunities

What we can give you

As one of our region’s leading employers, we place high value on investing in our people, and in addition to a number of support, training and development programmes, offer a wide range of rewards and benefits. As well as your pay, pensions, holiday entitlement and flexible ways of working to help you achieve a good work life balance, you can choose from a variety of other employee benefits. More information about the great things we have to offer is included in our rewards and benefits document.

If you can match our ambition for Nottingham to be a world-class city for everyone, we want to hear from you. We aim to have a workforce that reflects our city’s diversity, and particularly want to hear from candidates from BAME communities, as well as individuals that identify with having a disability.
