Manchester, permanent

Job description, key responsibilities and experience

Salary: £69,858.26 - £78,314.09 (pay award pending) + benefits

Closing date: Midnight Wednesday 4 September 2024

This is a chance to lead our Management Accounts and Finance Business Partnering function at an unprecedented time. GMCA is a pioneer, with a programme of devolution that will see increasing functions in housing, transport, work and skills, planning and economic regeneration transferred from Whitehall to the Authority. These landmark changes means you’ll be working with senior figures including Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester. It also means you’ll have one of the most interesting and cutting-edge finance roles that’s out there right now.

Day to day, you’ll lead our Management Accounts function, covering revenue budgets of circa £1.5bn across a diverse range of operational areas including Safer and Stronger Communities (which includes Fire, Police and Crime), Transport, Environment, Digital, Housing and Work and Skills. You will also play a key part in helping the Authority and the Mayor to deliver some of the most ambitious objectives in local government.

Working with our supportive and innovative team, you will be a key adviser to senior executive directors, heads of service, GMCA elected committee members and other stakeholders on all matters relating to financial management. Good communication is therefore essential, along with relationship-building skills.
