Responding to COVID-19: insight, support and guidance

Head of Internal Audit

Kent County Council, Maidstone; Up to £97,000 + benefits

An exceptional audit function starts with accomplished leadership.

As a skilled and experienced leader, you know how rewarding developing teams can be. At Kent County Council, we're just as inspired by the challenge of continuous improvement. We now have an exciting opportunity to strengthen and shape our audit function, as we pursue a strategy of excellence. If you've got the drive and expertise to build on our progress, join us here in our beautiful county.

As Head of Internal Audit, you'll build on the solid foundations of our audit function – one that supports our strategic objectives by assuring governance, risk management and internal control. You'll also develop internal audit and counter fraud strategies, and liaise with external auditors. And through supportive, positive leadership, you'll develop our team's abilities and their level of expertise. The team already has a solid skillset and impressive dedication. The function has a number of external clients, so there is the opportunity to increase that client base still further. With a five-year review ahead, there's scope to build on their achievements, mould team structure and potentially increase capacity.

With your guidance, we'll be known as a modern, well regarded and highly collaborative audit function that inspires trust. You'll ensure our professionals have the confidence to take responsibility and skills to make decisions. To make the changes this requires, you'll need the support of senior managers and our highly experienced members. Political nous will be essential, along with strong people skills.

We're also looking for professional qualifications (IIA/CCAB) and proven audit expertise. Ideally, you'll have gained your experience in the public sector with another local authority. Calm and encouraging, you bring integrity, thoughtful leadership and collaboration. And naturally, you'll be in tune with the values that underpin our organisation.

Join us, and you'll enjoy generous rewards and benefits plus a unique working environment. Our county has so much to offer, from beautiful green landscapes to bustling market towns. With unspoilt coastline, historic sites and excellent transport links, you'll find an amazing home, here in the garden of England.
